Liberia’s lone representative to the 2019 IAAF World Championship in Doha, Qatar, Emmanuel Matadi has qualified for the Semi-Final of men’s 100 metres race.

The 2019 IAAF World Athletics Championships is the 17th edition of the biennial, global athletics competition organized by the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF).

Nearly 2000 athletes from 209 nations are competing in a total of 49 athletics events over the ten-day competition, comprising 24 events each for men and women, plus a mixed relay.

Matadi finished third🥉 in his heat in 10.19 seconds. He finished behind Nigeria’s Raymond Ekevwo, who finished in second in 10.14 seconds.

Following his qualification to the next round, Matadi posted on his official social media pages, “1st Round done… On to the Semifinals tomorrow at the World Championships here in Doha.. Thank you all for the support .
Liberia to the world 🇱🇷 .”

Matadi will race in heat-two of the semi-final on Saturday, September 28, against athletes from Great Britain, USA, Canada, Japan, China, Jamaica and Nigerian athlete Ekevwo.

The first two winners in the race will progress to the final of the men’s 100m category.
